Notes: Through the artwork
created by Joseph Allen, we are able to find our own
meanings visually. The many art forms associated with
Joe have tremendous significance to him, but touch viewers
with a mysterious excitement, which is unique to each
and every person. Through his work with sculpture, and
painting, Joe involves the experience of music. The
relationship between music, and visual arts has been
apparent, throughout his past, for it creates intense
motivation and inspiration. Many of his ideas have been
achieved by his interest in other artists and favorites
that have sparked his activity and unique characteristics.
Joe uses Maximilistic ideas emphasizing line, color,
and various textures.
Joe’s appreciation for family is displayed through
his generous personality. His opinions are held deep
down inside, to catch a small taste, they would admire
his individual self, which is one of a kind. Living
and sculpting his thoughts, Joe is employed at Alry
Tool and Die, and has access to scrap metal. After hours
are spent in the shop, with visions coming to life,
with a new emotion from every three-dimensional perspective.
His sculpting can be done after his nine-hour long shift.
Outside, Joe has built a sculpture park full of gigantic
iron pieces. At Joe’s home, he stays up through
the night, dancing with his strokes on the canvas, unable
to stop transforming his product, until it’s achieved
its place in existence.
Joe attended Buffalo State College, majoring in Fine
Arts, and eventually went on his own to grow into the
artist he was meant to be. His childhood was always
filled with aspirations of art, drives in visual expression,
and determination to learn. He has taught himself, leaving
him to grasp every form of art, and applying them into
his life of painting and sculpture. Recently, Joe had
a large Art show at The Market Street Gallery, in the
summer of 2003. Some of Joe’s influences are,
David Lynch, Robert Motherwell, Piet Modrian, Joan Mitchell,
Francis Bacon, David Smith, and Anthony Caro."
