Bob began his photographic career in the United States
Navy serving as a Naval Photographer during the Korean
War 1950-52.Upon his discharge he joined Bell Aircraft
in Wheatfield NY as a staff photographer.
In l955 he
accepted a position with the Buffalo Evening News as
a staff photographer where he spent the next 40 years.
During that time he was recipient of numerous Page
One, United Press International and Associated Press
awards.
In l960 he became the Chief Photographer of
the newly formed Buffalo Bills Football Team in the
National Football League from which he recently retired
after 42 years in 2001. He published a book of the
photographic history of the Buffalo Bills in l995.
The book is a collection of his work from l960-l995
titled “A View Through The Lens of Robert L.
Smith Buffalo Bills l960-l995". He also has his
work displayed in the NFL Hall of Fame in Canton Ohio
and has received numerous sports photographic awards.
He was also the team photographer of the NBA Buffalo
Braves Basketball Team for their entire tenure in Buffalo.
Bob was also associated with the NHL Buffalo Sabres
during their early years in our city.
On April 1 1957 Bob photographed Elvis Presley in
concert at the Memorial Auditorium in Buffalo NY. These
priceless black and white images of “the King”are
now available to the public through Elvis Presley Enterprises and the above address.
Bob has used one outstanding photo from that historic concert into a poster that
is now being sold locally and Nationally and is offered for $20 plus $5 postage
and handling. All of the photos he took at this concert are presently on display
at the “Off The Wall Restaurant” on Elmwood Ave in Buffalo NY until
September 1 2004.

Bob is currently on the Board of Trusties
of the Niagara Lutheran Health Care Facility in Lancaster
NY. He is the General Chairman of the Buffalo Cystic
Fibrosis Foundations Annual Walk for a Cure 1999-2004
and works tirelessly all year to aid the Cystic Fibrosis
Foundation in their efforts to cure this disease.
He is also president of the Brookins Green Homeowners
Association in Orchard Park NY...where he lives with
his wife Jeanne. They have 6 children and 8 grand children.
